It’s the first day of school and slightly dreary, but not to worry you can still dress light and bright. I remember how awesome school shopping was. I would lay out my first day outfit so I was ready to go when I woke up; that way I would have plenty of time to do my hair. The first few weeks of school I would have a very similar routine till finally the new clothes ran out and the fact I had to be in school settled in. Then I was sleeping in until the last minute and rummaging through my clothes to find my cleanest dirty items to wear. Oh how times have changed. I still wish I could go school clothes shopping in the fall, but I guess I will have to enroll in some classes first.

When I took these photos it was 90 degrees outside, but today it’s barely 70. So I think this is the perfect transition into Fall outfit. I love the mix of bold purples and greens and playful accessories. I have been wanting to wear these shoes for a long time. Finally their day has come.

All the great Fall fashion mags come out this month too. Every time I read them I long to wear tights and boots so I just went ahead and did it.

This weekend I was remembering how great my mother’s fashion sense was. I also remembered her affinity for wearing all the same color head to toe. I have never shared that same sentiment about fashion, but today I found out great minds think alike. This head to toe blue assemble was created by pure accident. I must be channeling my mom. Jewelry can be a real pain to organize. Boxes are great, but you can’t easily see what you have. The best way for me to make sure I’m wearing my jewelry collection is to have it in plain sight. Here are a few open display ideas I use in my own home.

I bought simple shelves from Goodwill and painted them white and added screw in hooks, about a half inch apart, on the bottom of the shelves. This makes it easy for me to hang my most favorite necklaces.

Marshalls always has great inexpensive metal jewelry racks. The 3 level earring holders are the perfect solution for organizing multiple pairs of earrings. I also scored a great multi-pronged, double sided necklace rack perfect for my delicate necklaces.

Ikea has tons of simple hooks and racks you can screw into the wall. The wooden ones I have can be painted or stained any color you like.

I love buying retail store displays for home. My double level bracelet rack is from a store that was cleaning out their old displays and I scooped it up for next to nothing.

Be creative, use something not intentionally meant for jewelry display. Bowls and dishes are also great to put rings and hair clips in. I even have a pedestal white glass bowl I put my sunglasses in.
